Brief Safari Overview:
Beginning and ending in Zambias’ capital city Lusaka, the Ultimate Kafue package takes you three nights each to Musekese Camp in the northern, Mukambi Plains Camp in the Busanga Plains and Kaingu Safari Lodge in the central area of the Kafue National Park.
Exploring remote areas of the Kafue National Park, you can enjoy accommodation in an authentic bush camp nestled amongst trees overlooking an immense dambo, a charming seasonal tented camp deep in the heart of the magical Busanga plains and in boutique tented chalets hugging the Kafue River, famous for its island and rock formations.
Experience one of Africa’s finest walking safaris at Musekese, the spectacular wetland area of the famous Busanga Plains at Mukambi Plains Camp and stunning river locations at Kaingu.
Discover wildlife and birding species by game drive, boating, and walking safaris, add canoeing, fishing or island sleepouts at Kaingu.
The highly experienced guiding teams enable you to have a customized safari, tailored in your requirements as much as possible.
All three camps are built with minimal impact to the environment, run in an eco and socially sustainable manner.
Day 1: Depart Lusaka in the morning with an arranged road transfer to Musekese Camp (5-6 hour drive) in the center of the northern sector of the Kafue National Park. Arrive in camp with the option of an afternoon acitivity or simply unwind & relax with a sundowner and dinner.
Day 2-3: The next few days are spent exploring the riverine woodlands and dambos of the Musekese area, where walking safaris and boat trips are the main methods of game viewing, while classic game drives are also an option. Daily activities for your stay at Musekese will be scheduled to suit your needs and tasty food will compliment your customized itinerary at Musekese. Whilst in camp you may enjoy the view from the large deck over dambo ‚Eden‘, from herds of elephant frolicking to the hundreds of puku keeping an eye out for one of the resident lion prides in the area.
Day 4: Enjoy breakfast at the camp before a morning transfer (game) drive to the Busanga Plains (3-4 hour drive). Arrive at Mukambi Plains Camp for lunch, followed by a siesta, and enjoy an afternoon-night game drive.
Day 5-6: The focus will be on game drives. Early morning safaris and excursions in the afternoon with the subsequent night drives to explore the open vastness of the Busanga plains. Here lion and cheetah prey on the great diversity of antelope species. Lechwe and puku graze on the central swamps while the shy sitatunga hides in the papyrus reeds. Wildebeest, roan and sable visit the natural water pools in the plains and to see a large herd of elephant crossing the wide open grassland at sunset is truly magical. Crowned and wattled cranes, secretary birds and ground hornbills stalk the grasslands and ancient fig trees (the famous One Fig) and palms draw their nutrients from giant termite hills.
Day 7: Enjoy breakfast while watching lechwe at the camp before setting of to KaingU Safari Lodge (6 hour drive, plus 10min boat). Arrive at the lodge in time for high tea by the rivers edge and afternoon boat cruise, sundowner and dinner.
Day 8-9: Whilst relaxing at KaingU, delicious meals and snacks accompany your diverse activity options including game drives, boat cruises, canoeing, fishing, nature & rock walks, a visit to a local school or recreational time. With the assistance of your guide, customise activities that suit your needs. The spectacular beautiful stretch of the Kafue River at KaingU contrasts well with the Busanga Plains, the changing environment offers different species and landscape and the opportunity for variet activities.
Day 10: Breakfast is served early, before your departure back to Lusaka (Road Transfer: 4-5 hours) or to your next destination.
1-3rd night: MUSEKESE CAMP, northern sector Kafue NP walking safaris, boating safaris, morning/afternoon and all day game drives, birding walks, photographic hides.
4-6th nights: MUKAMBI PLAINS CAMP, Busanga plains Kafue NP morning/afternoon/night game drives, walking safaris.
7-9th night: KAINGU SAFARI LODGE, central sector Kafue NP river cruises, canoeing, fishing, nature & rock walks, morning/afternoon and all day game drives, photographic hides, island breakfasts, – sleep outs and rapids dinners
